Tragedy struck as a Christian man, previously rescued from a mob attack in Sargodha, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Rawalpindi on Monday. The incident, stemming from allegations of desecration, occurred on May 25 in Sargodha’s Mujahid Colony.
The victim, targeted by a violent mob, faced a brutal assault involving kicks, punches, and stone-throwing. The attack extended to his family’s property, with a shoe shop set ablaze, and attempts made to breach their residence.
In response, Sargodha police swiftly intervened, rescuing the man and initiating legal action against the perpetrators. A terrorism case against 44 named and hundreds of unidentified suspects was registered, alongside a blasphemy case against the Christian man himself.
Despite initial reports of stability, the victim’s condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to a military hospital and subsequently to Rawalpindi. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away.
The incident underscores ongoing challenges faced by religious minorities in Pakistan and highlights the importance of addressing communal tensions and safeguarding the rights of all citizens. Funeral arrangements are underway as the community mourns the loss of one of its own.
