At least 11 lives were tragically lost in a coal mine incident near Quetta. The victims, including nine coal miners, a manager, and a contractor, succumbed to methane gas inhalation in the Sanjdi area, approximately 50km from Quetta.
According to Abdul Ghani Shahwani, Chief Inspector of Mines in Balochistan, the miners were working deep within the mine when the gas eruption occurred, rendering them unconscious. Despite rescue efforts, all 11 individuals were found deceased inside the mine.
The mine, operated by the United Coal mining company, has been sealed, and an inquiry into the incident has been initiated.
In a separate incident, two coal miners were fatally shot in Duki district, with another injured. Enraged by the attack, locals staged a protest rally demanding justice.
These incidents highlight the hazardous working conditions faced by coal miners and underscore the urgent need for improved safety measures and regulations in the mining industry.
